Powerful New Book on Addiction, Intervention, and Recovery
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 5, 2007 -- Professional drug and alcohol interventionist, Steven George, announces the release of his new book, Stream of Unconsciousness. This memoir provides an extraordinary insight into the mind of an alcoholic/drug addict and offers a strong message of hope for not only people suffering from addiction, but also for the families and friends of addicts.
Steven George was living the American Dream. To the outside world, he had everything; a spacious home in one of Southern California's most exclusive communities, a beautiful wife, two healthy children, and a convertible Porsche. His was the perfect life, until one day his wife discovered his deepest secret. For over a decade he had been struggling with a relentless addiction to drugs and alcohol.
Stream of Unconsciousness chronicles Steven's dark experience with his addictions, his wife's attempt to discover the truth, an emotional intervention, and his subsequent experiences in one of the premier treatment facilities in the nation.
"I had been using drugs and alcohol for years and kept it a secret. As part of a prominent family, I had to maintain the image of leading the life of a respectable family man. I tried quitting, but no matter how much effort I put into it, I couldn't stop. My addiction, to say nothing of my marital problems and debt, just kept growing. Had my wife not organized an intervention, I would have lost everything, including my life."
This memoir highlights what it took for one man to beat his addiction into remission. "When I was admitted into the treatment facility, I realized that I did not have to live the insanity that was my life. I was given an amazing opportunity (treatment) and I decided to take full advantage of it. The first challenge for me was to completely surrender to the advice and suggestions of the treatment staff and commit to the process."
Ken Seeley, interventionist from A & E's hit show Intervention commented on George's book.
"Rarely do we see an individual in recovery dig so deeply into their own personal experience with addiction that they are not only able to connect with others who've shared similar experiences, but they are also able to grab the attention of anyone who's ever known or worked with someone suffering from an addictive disease; Steven George has remarkably done just that in this powerful and important book."
