New Book Lends Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse
Longwood, FL (PRWEB) May 8, 2008 -- According to the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one out of every four American women report they have been physically abused by a husband or boyfriend at some point in their lives; 85 percent of Americans say they would help stop this violence if they just knew what to do. Here to help is Xulon author Monica M. Singleton-Soileau's newest release, Domestic Violence, Homicide and Suicide from a Surviving Child's Perspective (paperback, 978-1-60477-827-4; hardcover, 978-1-60477-828-1). Written from the point of view of one who has personally witnessed these things, the book seeks to educate readers on the matter so they can more appropriately deal with this real problem of abuse.
Singleton-Soileau witnessed perhaps what is the worst scenario of domestic violence come to pass: her father shot her mother in the head and then committed suicide, leaving her mother wounded and her and her brother fatherless. She was faced with a dilemma: how would she teach her own daughters that suicide is not an option? She responded by penning her book, seeking to break the cycles of abuse, to prevent young people from committing suicide, to lead them to forgiving their fallible parents, and to teach them how to live a functional life in a dysfunctional world with God's help.
Says the author, "The importance of this book about domestic violence is that there is help for the entire family--the spousal victim of the abuse, the abuser, and their traumatized children. The ultimate goal is to break the cycle of abuse; introduce love, compassion, forgiveness, and understanding; and then [bring peace and healing."
